BONE Structure breaks ground in Los Angeles
BONE Structure® breaks ground on first project in Los Angeles with award winning Architect Dan Brunn and Dwell.
Los Angeles, California – November 29th, 2016 – BONE Structure®, designer and builder of luxury custom homes, using a proprietary patented light steel frame building technology, broke ground this month on its first project in Los Angeles with award winning Architect Dan Brunn and Dwell.
The Bridge House, located in Hancock Park, will stretch 200 feet across the grounds, straddling a brook in an architectural maneuver that gives the project its name. The 4,500-square-foot home will serve as a demonstration of innovative systems and forward-thinking processes. The design exemplifies Brunn’s signature minimalist aesthetic, evident in dynamic spatial choreography of light and volume.
“The precision of the BONE Structure system is so evident and clear, it’s like seeing the inside of a swiss watch” says Dan Brunn.
Dan Brunn Architecture prides itself on the economy and efficiency of its designs, so the firm was eager to incorporate BONE Structure’s steel system in Bridge House. Combining a classic post-and-beam structure with energy-efficient solutions, BONE Structure delivers a flexible, durable, and sustainable product. “Building construction technology is so far behind, and we haven’t really progressed,” says Brunn, “so we were excited by the prospect of not having waste.” The assembly of the BONE Structure components is scheduled to begin early January 2017.
After launching its operations in California last June, BONE Structure’s first Net-Zero energy home project was commissioned by Stanford Professor of Climate & Clean Energy, Mark Z. Jacobson. The company hosted an Open House event where over 1,000 attendees toured the construction site to learn more about the benefits of this unique patented technology. There were displays and presentations about emerging green technologies, including those from TomKat Center Innovation Transfer grantees that are deploying sustainable energy solutions for the built world.
A private event hosted at the home included talks by Mark Z. Jacobson (Stanford Professor of Climate & Clean Energy), JB Straubel (Co-Founder & Chief Technology Officer at Tesla Motors, Inc.), Tommy Deserti (Head of RNC and OEM at Nest), and Marc Bovet (CEO of BONE Structure). The company’s tested and proven building system is a scalable solution to meet California’s 2020 Net Zero Energy (ZNE) new home building requirements. The company expects to build 50 new homes in California in 2017 and has manufacturing resources across the U.S. and Canada with the ability to produce 1,000 residences per year.
